The Orange County Ronald McDonald House is looking for passionate and dedicated people to volunteer in The Ronald McDonald Family Room (RMFR). There are two RMFR locations, one in Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) in Orange, California. The other location is CHOC’s satellite campus CHOC at Mission in Mission Viejo. The RMFR is a special place within the hospital, near the intensive care unit, where families can relax and “get-away” while still being close to their child. The role of the RMFR volunteer is to staff the RMFR, uphold all RMFR and hospital policies, and be supportive to the families who use the RMFR. The volunteer’s role is crucial in maintaining the friendly, caring atmosphere of the RMFR.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The RMFR volunteer conducts the following duties:
- Must be able to work independently.
- Report to scheduled shift in a timely and reliable manner.
- Answer telephones.
- Register guests.
- Provide orientation and tours to first time guests.
- Assign rooms and manage room list.
- Keep simple statistical records.
- Instruct families of the Family Room policies.
- Enforce policies when needed.
- Offer resources to families.
- Clearly communicate with the Orange County Ronald McDonald House staff and hospital staff as needed.
- Keep the room neat and tidy.
- Help provide a warm, friendly and supportive atmosphere for families.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Fill out volunteer application.
- Schedule & attend Family Room orientation at Orange County Ronald McDonald House (approximately 1 hour).
- Attend an in person interview with the Ronald McDonald Family Room Manager.
- Complete permission form for CHOC to conduct a background screening.
- Submit to New Volunteer Medical Screening Record.
- Schedule & attend official Family Room Volunteer training at the hospital. (approximately 3 hours).
- A shirt will be provided by the Ronald McDonald House to wear during volunteer shifts. Solid color pants or skirts must be worn with closed toe shoes. Jeans can not be worn during a volunteer shift.
- Applicants must be at least sixteen years of age.
- Be able to volunteer a minimum of two, 4 hour shifts (8 hours monthly).
- Preferred 1 year volunteer commitment to RMFR.
