Cook a Meal For Families

Cook a meal for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House!

One of our most popular community group opportunities is our meal program called “Feasts from the Heart”.  This is where you come and cook a meal for families staying at the Orange County Ronald McDonald House.

In many communities and cultures, it is traditional for friends and neighbors to prepare meals for their loved ones who are caring for a sick family member.  It is an act of kindness that translates feelings of concern into a tangible expression of human compassion.

When parents return to the Ronald McDonald House after a long day at the hospital it is nice to have a hot, delicious home-cooked meal prepared by for them.

Steps to cooking a meal at the Ronald McDonald House:

  • Print out the “Feasts from the Heart” guidelines.
  • Get on the calendar.  We recommend that you have several possible dates in mind when trying to book your meal.  In 2007, we had 326 dinners prepared by outside groups.  You may want to consider doing a breakfast or lunch.  Or ask about preparing a meal for one of our Ronald McDonald Family Rooms.
    Call (714) 639-3600.
  • Your group must be limited to a maximum 10 people.
  • Be creative with your menu!  For example, maybe you want to plan a Luau during the summer using our outside BBQ with music and games.  Or how about a Bingo night?  If you need more suggestions, please ask.
  • Make sure you receive a confirmation from us via fax or mail.  If not, please call a day or two before you’re scheduled to cook to ask any last minute questions and confirm that we have you on the calendar.
  • Have fun!

Have younger children in your group?

You may want to consider having the kids make brownies or cupcakes.   This is called our “McBakers” program.  Click here (McBaker’s pdf) to print out more “McBakers” information.

If you have any questions please contact our volunteer coordinator at (714) 516-3664 or email volunteer@ronaldhouseoc.org.
